Insurance Coverage Japan Compulsory Insurance Japan Compulsory Insurance or JCI is the mandatory insurance coverage required by Japanese law for all registered vehicles.  This is automatically renewed at the time of vehicle registration renewal.  JCI by itself does not cover damages to you or vehicle in case of an accident. The coverage amount is also not sufficient to cover any claims made against you by third parties.  We strongly recommend taking out voluntary insurance coverage.
